So here's what I am currently working on
Will post quick notes to you guys here.
I'm currently reworking the core player code from scratch to be much more flexible and - more importantly - modular. This rework is as annoying as necessary, and overdue, but it's also something that wouldn't really be noticed visually when looking at new versions. So make sure, when testing, that things behave as they are supposed to behave.
The biggest advantage of this rework is - as I mentioned - flexibility. Also, there'll be multiple parallel streams possible which means this prepares Resonic for cross-fading, gapless playback, playlists, cue sheets.
I'm also reworking the volume bar and several other things in the process.

Re: So here's what I am currently working on
No updates lately as I'm fully concentrating on reworking the core engine, which is some seriously sucky task.
Other than that I made some minor changes to the website, Labs and such, but I'm thinking about moving the Labs to the forums anyways, sooner or later.

Re: So here's what I am currently working on
An intermediate test release is coming soon. No visible major feature additions, except lots of smaller ones (e.g. A-B) and the internal, massive rework. Ideally this should "feel" the same as before.

Re: So here's what I am currently working on
Sorry for the lack of updates, but all the work is still going into the internals - meaning that basically the whole player is being restructured internally.
Unfortunately there are no new builds yet, they're all half-broken because of major changes, for example most of the playback controls (buttons and keyboard shortcuts) are deactivated right now, so it wouldn't even make sense to upload a pre-release.

Also, struggling a bit with the (self-)financing of Resonic. Development is still going strong, so no worries there, despite the lack of updates.

Re: So here's what I am currently working on
quick update:
there haven't been any new test builds yet, but i'm coming very close to a new one as the final alpha release is imminent. a lot of finalizing to do right now.
something i was asked before: the nag message built into older test builds is intended. it is primarily there to avoid circulation of pre-releases (in case they slip out, which shouldn't happen) and to clearly remind testers that they are using an actual test build. these builds are never ever meant to be released to the public.
preparations for the beta are mostly done and i can already spoil that there will be midi file and soundfont support (with live soundfont switching) coming up

Re: So here's what I am currently working on
An update:
I'm currently busy with the first beta. Reworking the main window's buttons into fully customized ones, which is not only an important step towards color themes, but also is much more flexible when it comes to designing special interface elements that are/or are similar to buttons.
Changes so far:

I'm currently busy with the first beta. Reworking the main window's buttons into fully customized ones, which is not only an important step towards color themes, but also is much more flexible when it comes to designing special interface elements that are/or are similar to buttons.
Changes so far:
Code: Select all
! Much better database performance and greatly reduced disk accesses when the option
'Allow multiple instances' is disabled, which is the default setting.
+ Waveform peaks are no longer scanned when waveform is not visible,
or visualization area is hidden (CTRL-F12).
This archieves a significant performance boost in situations where waveforms are not required, for example:
You just want to browse or manage files without visualization.
You just want to use the analyzer.
+ Partial support for interface scaling on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 (DPI awareness)
* Several cosmetic changes
* Soft frame for volume control on mouse hover
+ About dialog (see 'Menu | Help')
! Fixed next/previous folder shortcuts not working in certain situations
! Fixed 'Hz' column (sample rate) showing incorrect information (reported: S. Quinn)
* Improved text rendering in visualizations
+ New shortcut: BACKSPACE goes up one level in folder tree, when browser has input focus
+ Footer now shows number and size of selected files

The new toolbar looks great
Most expected features for me are :
- Asio support (and manual soundcard selection/switching) ;
- better sample management : Copy/paste/move/(batch) rename/delete improvements ;
- Being able to find similar/nearly similar samples in different folders (like many image viewer does, but for sounds) ;

errrh, where are we supposed to fin the new version : in the first post of the topic, in the beta forum, or on your website ?

The beta isn't released yet.
Latest is final alpha, which is available on the regular website.

Feature I'm most looking forward to: Continuous Repeat Folder (I hate being in-game when the music stops, and I have to alt-tab just to start the music again)
Feature I'm looking forward to after that: Equalizer

hey that would be a very cool feature (the last one)....I might have a heap of hi hats all that are the same but the file is just named different things , and resonic could scan and compare its wave image and tell me which ones are the same? that would be awesome!
Re: So here's what I am currently working on
Yes, i guess it would be quite a lot of work, but it would be THE big, most expected feature for sample management...
(and also for spotting duplicates mp3, etc)
XNview does this for pictures, it works great !

for the Pro release obviously. But would be a big selling feature for sure! id get a lott of use out of it removing duplicates! awesome idea wshaper

Re: So here's what I am currently working on
Thanks for the feedback so far!
I kinda caught the flu (or something weird), but working on the beta anyways ... most of the time, and when my head doesn't feel like doing it supernova style.
The buttons in that screenshot have no theme colors on yet, later on they'll look more refined.
Some stuff I added since the last post:
Regarding some suggestions:
1. (Continuous) Repeat folder - looking for a solution GUI that isn't too confusing, also have to pixel-hack an icon for that. Probably will add a right-click menu on play mode button for extra modes, maybe a little arrow to indicate the menu
2. Preferences dialog w/ manual sound card selection + global hotkeys - working on, want this in the first beta
3. Find duplicates - while I think this is a useful feature I honestly don't think I will be concentrating on this at first. There are several tools out there that do exactly as I would approach this: do rough frequency analysis and compare the similarity of the results. Also, there are much more important things, like a full-featured search, left to do first.
However: I have approached this differently before, some code already exists. I've attached three different snares in my rough analysis. In addition to that I'm working on displaying these rough FFT shape in file list in the Pro. But that's just my first attempts.

Code: Select all
+ New waveform style: 'Solid',
a simple but elegant single-color waveform, as seen in many classic wave editors.
+ New shortcut: ALT-NUM* inverts the current file selection
+ New column: 'Track #', actual track number read from ID3 tags (suggested: trucmuch)
! Fixed playback auto-starting in certain cases when ALT-TAB or TAB is pressed

Thank you for your feedback.
I like the "similarity threshold" slider in XnView, sadly it doesn't work for audio.
Would you care to give a few names ? I have searched for such a tool for a while, and never found an audio-dedicated software for this (while there are many for images, for instance). There are several tools out there that do exactly as I would approach this: do rough frequency analysis and compare the similarity of the results.

Duplicate Audio Finder (www.3delite.hu) for example. From the screenshots it seems to be FFT-based. However, I have no idea whether it's any good.wshaper wrote:Would you care to give a few names ? added a sample CD folder with only about 600 sounds (WAV only, easiest for the app, which is BASS-based),
thing did something for a good, good while, then crashed.
The developer seriously wants 15 monies for this half-assed attempt on software.
Stunning, in the taser kind of way.

Most players that do continuous mode playback (even car stereos I've seen) have it as a second option when clicking/pressing the loop button... Press once for looping current track, press again to loop everything (continuous), press again to return to standard once-through playback.Tom wrote:1.
