Feature suggestion: Keyboard shortcut to make the cursor "magnetic"

It would be great if the cursor becomes "magnetic" and snaps automatically to the nearest peak/trough.
For example:
1. If I press a modifier key and then move the cursor with the mouse or arrow keys, it should snap to the next peak/trough.
2. If I release the modifier key, the cursor can be moved freely.
