Was "use software mixing" option made exclusively for WinXP?
I'm wondering because it's known that in all Vista+ OS DirectSound always uses software mixing and I never seen such option for WASAPI...

You're right. And that option refers to streams only.

You're right. And that option refers to streams only.
So there should be some note (like "works only for Windows XP") not to confuse users

And what does 'stream' means in this case?

Stream as in playing source audio data (file, ...).
So, not driver "voice".
